T-minus 1 hour 45 minutes to my tattoo.
I was just thinking of my cousin Heather's wedding again, and seeing those family members I rarely see. It’s funny; there are almost two levels of cousins. There is the, what I am calling, "The Old Guard" - which includes Wendy, me and Song. We all are within a few years of each other with Song being the youngest. There is then a gap of a few years and the middle cousins drop in; Aaron, Heather, Tommy, etc. Then "The New Guard", those that are over 12 years or more age different than myself.
Our family has always been fairly close but geographically spread out. When I was at the wedding I got to speak to Tommy, I mean actually converse not just say hello at Christmas, for the first time in MANY years and it was nice. We didn't speak of anything deep, just kids and the wedding and it sure didn't last long enough. I got to talk to Heather for a small bit, but understandably she was busy. I didn't get to tell her how proud I was of her.
Some of my cousins I have definitely been closer too, Aaron and Song for example are like my little brother and sister, even though we don't see each other near as much as I'd like. They couldn’t' be at the wedding, and I missed them.
Sadly, a lot of my relatives live within a few miles of me, including my grandparents, and I don't really communicate with them except at get-togethers. This is one of my biggest sadness and downfalls.
Anyway, I guess that was partially inspired by Songs recent post about growing up Hildebrand. It’s the Fourth of July, and yes, they have the Fourth in England too, and we are getting together for a swim party and food. I will post more later.

I categorize the cousins the same way at least in terms of the groups. We are for sure in the "Old" Guard as you call it!! Even though we don't see each other often I still feel as though we are more like brother and sister, that will never change! I miss you too!
